As Summer changes to Autumn, time spent reading on patios and at the beach transitions into the comfort of reading in your favourite indoor locations. Beach reads give way to more Mysteries & Thrillers. To help prepare for the next season, I bring to you 5 Cozy Autumn Reads which publish in Fall 2021.
From The Publisher:
June Jones emerges from her shell to fight for her beloved local library, and through the efforts and support of an eclectic group of library patrons, she discovers life-changing friendships along the way.
Lonely librarian June Jones has never left the sleepy English village where she grew up. Shy and reclusive, the thirty-year-old would rather spend her time buried in books than venture out into the world. But when her library is threatened with closure, June is forced to emerge from behind the shelves to save the heart community and the place that holds the dearest memories of her mother.
Why I Chose The Last Chance Library:
I love books that have characters that step outside of their comfort zone to stand up for their beliefs. The addition of eclectic supporting characters – count me in!
Genre: Women’s Fiction
Published: August 31, 2021 by Berkley Books.

From the Publisher:
Chloe is one of seven students at her DC-based college who are part of an unusual clinical study for psychopaths—students like herself who lack empathy and can’t comprehend emotions like fear or guilt. The study, led by a renowned psychologist, requires them to wear smart watches that track their moods and movements.
When one of the students in the study is found murdered in the psychology building, a dangerous game of cat and mouse begins, and Chloe goes from hunter to prey. As she races to identify the killer and put her own plan into action, she’ll be forced to decide if she can trust any of her fellow psychopaths—and everybody knows you should never trust a psychopath.
Why I Chose Never Saw Me Coming:
Autumn signifies a return to Universities and Colleges and the creep factor in this book will have students looking over their shoulders all year. I love a good psychological thriller and this one sounds perfect to curl up with.
Genres: General Fiction, Mysteries & Thriller

2017: 19 year old Tallulah is going out on a date, leaving her baby with her mother, Kim. Kim watches her daughter leave and, as late evening turns into night, which turns into early morning, she waits for her return. And waits. The next morning, Kim phones Tallulah’s friends who tell her that Tallulah was last seen heading to a party at a house in the nearby woods called Dark Place. She never returns.
2019: Sophie is walking in the woods near the boarding school where her boyfriend has just started work as a head-teacher when she sees a note fixed to a tree.’DIG HERE’ . . .A cold case, an abandoned mansion, family trauma and dark secrets lie at the heart of Lisa Jewell’s remarkable new novel.
Why I Chose The Night She Disappeared:
For those like creepy cold case Thrillers, this one is for you. I can almost see the fog hanging in the woods reading this synopsis. Aren’t you intrigued to find out what is buried near the DIG HERE note?

From the Publisher:
The annual Halloween block party is the pinnacle of the year on idyllic suburban cul-de-sac Ivy Woods Drive. An influential group of neighborhood moms—known as the Ivy Five—plans the event for months.
Except the Ivy Five has been four for a long time.
When a new mother moves to town, eager to fit in, the moms see it as an opportunity to make the group whole again. This year’s block party should be the best yet… until the women start receiving anonymous messages threatening to expose the quiet neighborhood’s dark past—and the lengths they’ve gone to hide it.
As secrets seep out and the threats intensify, the Ivy Five must sort the loyal from the disloyal, the good from the bad. They’ll do anything to protect their families. But when a twisted plot is revealed, with dangerous consequences, their steady foundation begins to crumble, leaving only one certainty: after this year’s block party, Ivy Woods Drive will never be the same.
Why I Chose The Mother Next Door:
I enjoy books about neighborhoods with secrets and this one gives me that Desperate Housewives vibe. I’m intrigued to find out which mysteries lurk on Ivy Woods Drive this autumn and how welcome this new mother really is. A Halloween setting? Yes please!
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers/Women’s Fiction

From The Publisher:
After burning out in her corporate marketing career, Michelle Amato has built a thriving freelance business as a graphic designer. So what if her love life is nonexistent? She’s perfectly fine being the black sheep of her marriage-obsessed Puerto Rican-Italian family. Besides, the only guy who ever made her want happily-ever-after disappeared thirteen years ago. It’s been a long time.
Gabriel Aguilar left the Bronx at eighteen to escape his parents’ demanding expectations, but it also meant saying goodbye to Michelle, his best friend and longtime crush. Now, he’s the successful co-owner of LA’s hottest celebrity gym, with an investor who insists on opening a New York City location. It’s the last place Gabe wants to go, but when Michelle is unexpectedly brought on board to spearhead the new marketing campaign, everything Gabe’s been running from catches up with him.
Michelle is torn between holding Gabe at arm’s length or picking up right where they left off—in her bed. As they work on the campaign, old feelings resurface, and their reunion takes a sexy turn. Facing mounting pressure from their families—who think they’re dating—and growing uncertainty about their futures, can they resolve their past mistakes, or is it only a matter of time before Gabe says adiós again?
Why I Chose A Lot Like Adios:
Who doesn’t need a bit of romance to keep warm during the cooler days and nights of autumn? I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance and this one is getting lots of attention in pre-publication.
Genres: Romance, General Fiction, OwnVoices
Publishes: September 14, 2021 by William Morrow & HarperCollins Canada
