Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert: Book Review

I really appreciate when author’s write about characters on the autism spectrum as it provides me with further insight into this disorder. When I learned that Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert had both protagonists on the spectrum, I  knew I had to read it.  This is the third book in the author’s The Brown Sisters trilogy, but can easily be read as a standalone.  Act Your Age, Eve Brown publishes today!

Plot Summary

Eve Brown’s life has had its challenges.  Despite always trying to do the right thing, everything she’s tried goes horribly wrong.  After her latest disaster, Eve’s parents demand that it’s time she makes her own way.  Without a plan, Eve sets off to find her future.

Jacob Wayne runs his own bed and breakfast and he demands perfection.  When Eve appears to interview for the vacant chef position at his B&B, he immediately shuts her down. After all, she has no formal training and lacks experience.  But all things change when Eve hits him with her car and breaks his arm.  The B&B is short of staff and Jacob has no choice but to hire Eve to help out.  Her upbeat manner is the last thing Jacob wants, but the more he and Eve work together, the more he changes his mind.

Book Review

I enjoyed this book and the humorous banter between Eve and Jacob.  I really felt a sense of knowing these characters well, and it was enjoyable to see the relationship develop. I appreciate observing personal growth in the characters, and this book has it in spades.  The interpersonal dynamics of both of these characters with their family and friends was interesting to observe.  While this is not my favourite book in the series, I did appreciate a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy.

Audiobook Review

I listened to the audiobook version of the book which was narrated by Ione Butler.  I thoroughly enjoyed this performance, and found the narrator’s voice to be articulate, expressive and comfortable to listen to.  I listened to the book at my usual 1.3x speed and found this to be perfect.  I would not hesitate to recommend the audiobook version of this book to those that appreciate this format.

• The interpersonal dynamics between characters
• The use of characters on the autism spectrum

I Recommend This Book To:

Those readers who enjoy romantic comedies, or romance with lots of personal growth.  Please note this is an open door romance novel, so if you don’t like this in your books, I would suggest taking a pass on this one.
