Hi everyone! If you’re like me, you don’t have unlimited time to read so I like to invest a bit of time in finding books that I’m likely to love. Today I’m featuring 5 Books that will be publishing in August 2021 that are on my list of books to read. I hope that you can find one or more on this list for you to enjoy as well.
From the Publisher:
“After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America’s favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion.
Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn’t expect? That she may just find inspiration-and love-in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn’t fit, maybe it’s time to design your own”.
Why I Decided to read If The Shoe Fits:
I love the idea of this Cinderella story with a contemporary twist and this sounds like a fun read with a positive message.
Genres: Romance, Women’s Fiction
Publishes: August 3 by Disney-Hyperion and Disney Audiobooks, 304 pages or 9 hrs 52 minutes
From the Publisher:
“Nora Spangler is a successful attorney but when it comes to domestic life, she packs the lunches, schedules the doctor appointments, knows where the extra paper towel rolls are, and designs and orders the holiday cards. Her husband works hard, too… but why does it seem like she is always working so much harder?
When the Spanglers go house hunting in Dynasty Ranch, an exclusive suburban neighborhood, Nora meets a group of high-powered women—a tech CEO, a neurosurgeon, an award-winning therapist, a bestselling author—with enviably supportive husbands. When she agrees to help with a resident’s wrongful death case, she is pulled into the lives of the women there. She finds the air is different in Dynasty Ranch. The women aren’t hanging on by a thread.
But as the case unravels, Nora uncovers a plot that may explain the secret to having-it-all. One that’s worth killing for. Calling to mind a Stepford Wives gender-swap, The Husbands imagines a world where the burden of the “second shift” is equally shared—and what it may take to get there”.
Why I Decided to Read The Husbands:
Women’s Fiction is my favourite genre, and I love that this book is so relatable to many women. It has a bit of intrigue, and doesn’t Dynasty Ranch sound like an interesting place to visit?
Genre: Women’s Fiction
Publishes: August 3 by Flatiron Books and Macmillan Audio, 352 pages or 12 hours, 12 minutes.
From the Publisher:
“Gabi Bloom doesn’t believe in signs. She believes in photographic evidence, the view through her camera lens, and the snap of the shutter. It’s why she traveled to Europe—to satisfy her wanderlust and to kick off her photography career. But in Ireland, all of that changed when Gabi gazed into the impossibly blue eyes of an American bartender. She wasn’t prepared for their intense and immediate attraction, or the fact that she’d be bringing Ethan home with her . . . as her fiancé.
Gabi’s upcoming marriage is the cherry on top of her mother’s current predicament. Stumbling toward forty, Alissa is a pastry chef who raised her daughter single-handedly while Gabi’s father traveled the globe. Now her baby girl is getting married after a whirlwind romance and Alissa—well, Alissa is pregnant. Again. And not only is her ex the father, he wants her back. For good. Until she can figure out that part of the puzzle, Alissa is hiding her big little secret even as she helps Gabi plan a happily-ever-after wedding. But somewhere between disaster and hope, life might just bloom in a way that is breathtakingly unexpected . . .”
Why I Decided to Read The Bloom Girls:
The publisher is marketing this book as Gilmore Girls meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding and I love both of these! I love a mother-daughter story and this one seems to have a lot going on.
Genre: Women’s Fiction
Publishes: August 3 by Forever (Grand Central Publishing), 368 pages or 9 hours, 23 minutes.
From the Publisher:
“When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.
And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There’s just one catch — no one can know what they’re doing. But when they’re accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor’s game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?”
Why I Decided to Read The Dating Playbook:
I enjoy reading books from other cultures and this one sounds like a lot of fun. The storyline sounds like Taylor is a strong female character and is one I’m always attracted to.
Genres: Multicultural interest, OwnVoices, Romance
Publishes: August 17 by Forever (Grand Central Publishing), 384 pages
From the Publisher:
“It’s 1997 and Missy’s band has finally hit the big time as they tour across America. At twenty-two years old, Missy gets on stage every night and plays the song about her absent mother that made the band famous. Missy is the only girl in the band and she’s determined to party just as hard as everyone else, loving and leaving someone in every town. But then a forgotten party favour strands her at the border.
Forty-something Carola is just surfacing from a sex scandal at the yoga centre where she has been living, when she sees her daughter, Missy, for the first time in ten years—on the cover of a music magazine.
Ruth is eighty-three and planning her return to the Turkish seaside village where she spent her childhood. But when her granddaughter Missy winds up crashing at her house, she decides it’s time that the strong and stubborn women in her family find a way to understand each other again.
In her new book, by turns sharp and provocative, Zoe Whittall captures three generations of very different women who struggle to build an authentic life in the absence of traditional familial and marital structures. Definitions of family, romance, gender and love will radically change as they seek out lives that are nothing less than spectacular”.
Why I Decided to Read The Spectacular:
I love stories of several generations of the same family and this story has me absolutely intrigued. It is character-driven and told from the point of view of all three women.
Genre: Women’s Fiction
Publishes: August 24 by HarperCollins Canada and HarperCollins Audio, 368 pages or 12 hours.
