Summary:
Maggie Field, head of IT at a financial firm, had planned a quiet solo Christmas in London until her three quirky work friends invited her to spend the holidays with each of them. Eager for an adventure, Maggie accepts, but her joy is dampened when her boss insists she must lay off one of her team. Faced with the heartbreaking choice between Frank, Jasper, and Leo—who’s not only dependable and funny but also increasingly irresistible—Maggie is torn. Her festive journey leads her through a whirlwind of events, from playing a fake girlfriend at a wedding to rescuing baby foxes and chasing donkeys in the Lake District. As sparks fly between her and Leo, Maggie wrestles with her dilemma: can she keep her team intact and perhaps find love under the mistletoe?
My Thoughts:
Maggie is head of IT at a financial firm, and she loves both her job and her three geeky yet endearing work buddies. Facing her first Christmas alone, she’s thrilled when each of them invites her to spend part of the holiday with them. But just as she starts looking forward to a festive season full of laughter and friendship, her boss delivers devastating news: she must make one of her beloved team redundant in the new year. With her career, her friendships, and even her heart on the line, Maggie embarks on a Christmas journey she’ll never forget.
We Three Kings is a funny, heartfelt story of friendship and romance set in the UK at Christmas, and I loved following Maggie’s adventure. One of my favourite moments is when she’s roped into playing the fake girlfriend at a wedding, only to realize she’s wearing the exact dress as the bridal party – an absolutely hilarious moment that had me laughing out loud.
As Maggie divides her holiday time among her three coworkers, she grows closer to Leo, who is charming, dependable, and unexpectedly vulnerable. Their connection feels so natural, and yet her dilemma only deepens, adding a layer of tension that keeps you rooting for her to find a way to save her friendships and perhaps her chance at love.
Though the ending is somewhat predictable, Kristen Bailey fills the story with quirky characters and genuine warmth, making We Three Kings feel like a celebration of friendship as much as romance. It’s a story about loyalty and compassion, perfect for those looking for a Christmas tale with both laughter and heart.
The Narration:
I listened to the audiobook version narrated by Harrie Dobby, whose lively and engaging performance added even more warmth to the story. Her voice is full of enthusiasm, making it easy to get lost in the characters and the festive spirit.
Final Thoughts:
We Three Kings is a delightful Christmas read that strikes just the right balance between humour and heartfelt moments. Kristen Bailey captures the spirit of the holidays with her charming characters and festive settings, all while exploring deeper themes of friendship, love, and the value of human connection. Maggie’s journey is both relatable and uplifting, making it easy to get swept up in her story. For anyone looking to cosy up with a feel-good tale this holiday season, We Three Kings is the perfect choice.
