Hi everyone! Those of you who follow my blog will know my love of Debbie Macomber books. Her 2021 Christmas book is Dear Santa which proved to be the magical holiday novel that I’ve come to expect from this author. This book is available now.
From The Publisher:
Lindy Carmichael isn’t feeling particularly joyful when she returns home to Wenatchee, Washington, for Christmas. The man she thought was “the one” has cheated on her with her best friend, and she feels completely devoid of creativity in her graphic-design job. Not even carolers or Christmas cookies can cheer her up–but Lindy’s mother, Ellen, remembers an old tradition that might lift her daughter’s spirits.
Reading through a box of childhood letters to Santa and reminiscing about what she’d wished for as a young girl may be just the inspiration Lindy needs. With Ellen’s encouragement, she decides to write a new letter to Santa, one that will encourage her to have faith and believe just as she’d done all those years ago. Little does Lindy know that this exercise in gratitude will cause her wishes to unfold before her in miraculous ways. And, thanks to some fateful twists of Christmas magic–especially an unexpected connection with a handsome former classmate–Lindy ultimately realizes that there is truly no place like home for the holidays.
In Dear Santa, Debbie Macomber celebrates the joys of Christmas blessings, old and new.
Book Review:
I enjoyed Dear Santa. The characters are all well developed, relatable and interesting. Lindy is a strong woman with a career in which she is successful and well respected. She is devastated to learn of the relationship between the man she she loves and her beloves and needs to getaway. A Christmas holiday back home to her family is the perfect way to begin the healing process.
I loved the Christmas traditions in the book including the letters to Santa. These letters not only provide insight into Lindy’s childhood but into the woman she has become. Lindy meets Santa on several occasions, and the man with the white beard seems to know more about Lindy than one would expect. The conversations between Lindy and Santa are magical – I loved them!
The romance between Lindy and former classmate Billy was beautifully written. It highlights one of the strongest themes in the book – one of understanding and forgiveness. I also enjoyed how Lindy reconnected with several other friends from the past that she hadn’t seen in many years. As Lindy is faced with a difficult decision, the importance of these relationships are prominently featured.
This book has all the magic you want from a holiday read. The epilogue to the book is very reminiscent of a class holiday movie. You’ll have to read the book to find out which one.
Audiobook Review:
I listened to the audiobook version of Dear Santa which was narrated by Keylor Leigh. I appreciated her enthusiasm and tone which made the book easy to listen to. I would not hesitate in recommending this version of the book to those that appreciate this format.
What I Liked:
- The feeling of Santa and Christmas magic which comes from the book.
- The theme of understanding and forgiveness.
- The personal growth and enhanced self-esteem that Lindy feels during her trip home.
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers who enjoy magic in their holiday books.
