From The Publisher:
From New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne–and her real life husband and high school sweetheart, Anthony LeDonne–comes a new holiday romcom that is sure to warm even the coldest heart.
Katherine, an ambitious NYC attorney, gets diagnosed with a concussion and must be monitored for 48 hours to make sure it doesn’t get worse. Unfortunately, she forgot to update her emergency contact so the person they call is her ex-husband, Tom. Unable to be left alone, Katherine reluctantly agrees to travel to Chicago with Tom for the holidays. But thanks to a blizzard, what should have been a quick plane ride turns into an antagonistic overnight misadventure that stirs up old feelings even as Tom prepares to propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve.
My Thoughts:
“Emergency Contact” by Lauren Layne and Anthony Ledonne is a delightful second chance romance that blends humour, heart, and forced proximity into an entertaining narrative.
The story revolves around Katherine, a driven NYC attorney who unexpectedly finds herself diagnosed with a concussion, necessitating 48 hours of monitoring. The catch? She forgot to update her emergency contact, and the person they call is her ex-husband, Tom. Reluctantly, Katherine agrees to accompany Tom to Chicago for the holidays, but their plans go awry due to a blizzard, leading to an overnight misadventure that rekindles old feelings. All this while Tom is preparing to propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve.
I found “Emergency Contact” to be a joyous read, offering a gradual revelation of Tom and Katherine’s complicated history. The dual perspective storytelling works seamlessly, providing depth to their characters. What truly sets this book apart is the witty banter between Katherine and Tom, which had me laughing out loud.
The audiobook version of this book deserves a special mention. The narrators’ performances are impeccable, with spot-on comedic timing and an enthusiastic delivery that enhances the narrative. Their beautiful voices add a layer of charm to the story.
The narrative keeps you engaged as the couple embarks on a series of adventures across different forms of transportation, en route to Chicago. The uncertainty surrounding Tom’s choice between Katherine and his soon-to-be fiancée in Chicago adds an exciting layer of tension that keeps you hooked until the very end.
“Emergency Contact” has earned a special place in my heart among Lauren Layne’s books, and I wholeheartedly recommend the audiobook version to those who appreciate this format. This book’s engaging plot, humour, and heartwarming moments make it an excellent candidate for a movie adaptation. I can easily envision it as a charming and entertaining film. I hope this book is just the first of many others by this writing duo.

It sounds good, although I don’t know how I feel about the part that he is getting ready to propose to a current girlfriend. Great review though!
