From The Publisher:
Born on Christmas, Angela Stark has always hated the holiday. Bad things always seem to happen and this year is no exception when she is fired and evicted on the first day of December.
She was living and working as a maid in San Francisco. Who will hire her at this time of year, especially if they learn why she was fired?
Her only family is Sam, an elderly, and quite vocal orange cat. Her only option is to stay temporarily with her best friend Jane, but she is extremely allergic to cats. It’s not ideal, but it doesn’t look like she has a choice, until a certified letter arrives that changes everything.
The next thing she knows, she and Sam are flying to Nantucket, a place they’ve never been before.
It’s meant to be a temporary visit. But then Angela meets the Hodges family and friends and begins to question where home really is.
My Thoughts:
Angela Stark, born on Christmas, has always harbored a deep dislike for the holiday due to past misfortunes. This year, her streak of bad luck continues as she loses her job and her home on the very first day of December. As a maid with a tarnished reputation, finding employment during the holiday season seems impossible. Her only companion is Sam, an endearing orange cat, and her only refuge is her allergic best friend Jane’s home. However, an unexpected certified letter alters the course of Angela’s life.
Kelley crafts a sweet and somewhat predictable story that nonetheless tugs at your heartstrings. Although the book is the third installment in the Nantucket Beach Plum Cove series, it stands alone effortlessly, allowing newcomers to dive into Angela’s world without any hindrance.
The characters in the book are its true gems, with Angela being a highly relatable and resilient protagonist. Her determination to overcome her troubled past, marked by a difficult childhood in foster homes, adds depth to her character. Readers will find themselves rooting for her as she strives to attain her dream of obtaining a university degree.
One of the book’s strengths lies in its gradual and heartwarming romance, which unfolds beautifully. Angela’s evolving relationship with the Hodges family and their friends adds layers of warmth and authenticity to the narrative. Kelley excels in portraying the sense of community on Nantucket, which transforms Angela’s life and provides her with the family she’s always yearned for.
Another standout aspect of the story is the unexpected inheritance of a lovely Nantucket home from a previously unknown grandmother. This twist adds an element of intrigue and nostalgia that enhances Angela’s journey of self-discovery.
‘Nantucket White Christmas’ is a delightful read for fans of heartwarming holiday stories and anyone seeking a dose of Christmas magic. Pamela Kelley’s characters and their journeys make for a memorable and enjoyable experience. Whether you’re new to the series or a returning reader, this book will leave you with a cozy feeling and a smile on your face.
