Hi everyone! Instamom by Chantel Guertin is one of my favourite books of the year. It’s a humorous, yet emotional, look at the life of a childless influencer who suddenly finds herself falling in love with a single father.
Plot Summary
Kit Kidding has made a living as an instagram influencer and author for the past several years. Her social media platform is based on her choice to have a childless life. Over the years, she’s created a community where women feel supported on their decision on whether or not to have children. She’s so committed to this lifestyle that she recently ended a 5 year relationship when her partner declared he was changing his mind about living child-free.
When she meets good looking Will MacGregor at an event he is catering, it isn’t his words she’s attracted to. In fact, his distaste for social media and her influencer lifestyle become a point of aggravation. Nevertheless, she’s open to a night of passion with Will in his hotel room, knowing she never has to see him again.
Fate comes in to play, and Kit soon finds that she’s working on a contract with Will and they soon find that they have more in common than what was originally thought. Will discloses that he is a single parent much to Kit’s surprise. As Kit becomes more involved with Will and his daughter Addie, she begins to reexamine her priorities in life, and what she hopes to have in her future.
Book Review
This was my first book by Chantel Guertin but it won’t be my last as I absolutely loved this book. The characters are well developed and likeable and the story extremely entertaining and well paced. I appreciated the evolution of Kit’s character as the story progressed and the inner turmoil she struggles with. The banter between Kit and Will was highly enjoyable. I fell in love with Addie’s character which I found to be both sweet and believable.
The discussion of women’s roles was an important theme in this book and one I thoroughly enjoyed. Not all women wish to have children and, in my opinion, this should be acceptable to those around them. However, we know this is not always the case. It would be interesting to know what motivated the author to chose this theme.
Audiobook Review
I listened to the audiobook version of Instamom which was narrated by Justis Bolding who gave an outstanding performance. Her youthful enthusiasm and expressive voice were a pleasure to listen to. For those of you who enjoy audiobooks, I would choose this format as her voice added to an already great book.
What I Liked About Instamom:
- The important discussion on women’s roles
- The highly entertaining storyline, with lots of great banter
- The evolution of Kit as the story progressed
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers who enjoy a high energy romance novel involving a single parent.
