Love and Other Words is a lovely romance novel and likely one of my favourites by this writing duo.
Macy and Elliott meet as young children when Macy’s Dad purchases a cottage next door to Elliott’s. The cottage is a weekend and summer escape from the home and life left behind after the death of Macy’s mother. Elliott is just what Macy needs to help her reconnect to the world after this tragic loss. The two talk about their love of books, about their weekday separate lives and learn to lean on each other during trying times. As the two prepare for college the relationship is strained as a decade long absence separates the two before they meet again.
The story is told in the Then and Now alternating timelines where the reason behind their long absence from seeing one another is slowly revealed. It is a heart-warming, coming of age story with plenty to capture the audience’s attention along the way.
I listened to the audiobook version of Love and Other Words and applaud Erin Mallon for her performance. I did not want to increase the speed of the narration on this one, but rather to capture each thoughtful word and savour it.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5.
