Christmas at the Restaurant by Pamela Kelley is a heart-warming holiday tale of family, love, and festive traditions on Nantucket.
Summary:
At Nantucket’s famous Christmas Stroll, sisters Mandy and Emma, along with executive chef Paul, are planning something special for Mimi’s Place, the restaurant they co-own.
It’s Emma and Paul’s first Christmas as a couple, while Mandy, newly divorced and a single mother, is cautiously exploring a promising new relationship. Their sister Jill and her husband Billy are spending December on the island, balancing remote work for their Manhattan business with family time and helping at the restaurant.
Meanwhile, Gina, the restaurant’s bartender, is adjusting to the quieter Nantucket winters when her former city crush unexpectedly moves to the island, turning her winter into something much more exciting.
My Thoughts:
Returning to Pamela Kelley’s Nantucket series was an absolute treat, especially with the promise of holiday cheer. Christmas at the Restaurant delivers a heart-warming story of family, community, and the joys of the festive season.
The story picks up with sisters Mandy, Emma, and Jill as they prepare for Nantucket’s famous Christmas Stroll. Mimi’s Place, the restaurant they co-own along with chef Paul, is thriving, and the holiday season promises to be as busy as the summer months. The festive backdrop adds an extra sparkle to the lives of these characters as they navigate new relationships, family dynamics, and personal growth.
Mandy is facing her first Christmas as a single mother, which makes the support of her sisters and the presence of Jill’s husband, Billy, all the more poignant. Mandy has started dating again, though her sisters wish she’d broaden her horizons a bit. Meanwhile, Emma and Paul are settling into life as a couple, finding joy in the rhythm of working together at the restaurant.
One of the storylines I particularly enjoyed was Gina’s. As the restaurant’s bartender, she’s adjusting to her first quiet winter on Nantucket when a familiar face from her past appears, shaking up her routine. Watching her navigate her feelings while dating two very different men added a fun and light-hearted element to the story.
This isn’t a book filled with dramatic twists or unexpected turns. Instead, it offers a cosy, feel-good narrative about family coming together during the holidays. The festivities of Christmas Stroll and the bustling energy of Mimi’s Place are beautifully woven into the story, creating a vivid sense of place that makes you wish you were celebrating Christmas on Nantucket.
Final Thoughts:
Published in 2020, this is the second book in Kelley’s series, and I can’t help but hope she revisits these characters in the future. Christmas at the Restaurant is a lovely, uplifting read that’s perfect for getting into the holiday spirit.
