Shipped by Angie Hockman – A Book Review

When I think of all the vacations I’ve been lucky enough to take, some of my favourites have been on cruises. When I noticed Shipped by Angie Hockman being shared frequently on instagram along with so many positive reviews, I knew I wanted to read it.  I borrowed this audiobook from my local library.

Plot Summary

Henley Evans is a full-time marketing manager for a cruise line and part-time MBA student. As such, she has had very little time for herself – never mind family and friends. All of her hard work may be paying off soon though as she learns she has been shortlisted for the promotion she’s always dreamed of. The only problem is that Graeme Crawford-Collins, an employee who works remotely as the social media manager, has also been shortlisted. The negative email dynamic between Henley and Graeme is known throughout the company. The conflict between the two intensifies when they are both sent on a cruise to the Galapagos Islands. Each of them needs to draft a proposal on how to boost bookings for the cruise line. The best proposal will have earned the promotion. What an opportunity to see a different part of the world, but will their competitive nature bring out the best in them, or the worst?

Book Review

I love books that are sent in places I’ve wanted to travel to. The author, who has travelled in this area, has done a great job of creating the setting. The slow burn romance, was both engaging and entertaining. I enjoyed the cast of interesting characters on the ship, who were all extremely likeable. Without giving too much away, I also appreciated the discussion of a situation involving unjust work practices experienced within this organization. I’m certain this happens all too frequently in highly competitive work environments.

Audiobook Review

I listened to the audiobook version of this book which was narrated by Ines del Castillo. I really enjoyed her performance which provided an authenticity to the characters. I loved her expression and joyful quality to her voice. I would not hesitate to recommend the audiobook version to those who appreciate this format.

Those readers that enjoy contemporary romance set in tropical locations.
