Someone Else’s Shoes is the story of two very different women whose lives intersect after one mistakenly takes the other’s gym bag. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

From The Publisher:
A story of mix-ups, mess-ups and making the most of second chances, this is the new novel from international sensation Jojo Moyes, author of Me Before You and The Giver of Stars
Who are you when you are forced to walk in someone else’s shoes?
Nisha Cantor lives the globetrotting life of the seriously wealthy, until her husband announces a divorce and cuts her off. Nisha is determined to hang onto her glamorous life. But in the meantime, she must scramble to cope—she doesn’t even have the shoes she was, until a moment ago, standing in.
That’s because Sam Kemp—in the bleakest point of her life—has accidentally taken Nisha’s gym bag. But Sam hardly has time to worry about a lost gym bag—she’s struggling to keep herself and her family afloat. When she tries on Nisha’s six-inch high Christian Louboutin red crocodile shoes, the resulting jolt of confidence makes her realize something must change—and that thing is herself.
Full of Jojo Moyes’ signature humor, brilliant storytelling, and warmth, Someone Else’s Shoes is a story about how just one little thing can suddenly change everything.
My Thoughts:
This was such an interesting book! The author combines well-developed characters with meaningful backstories. Thrown in an adventure paired with a mystery and I’d call this another wonderful read by Joyo Moyes.
Nisha Cantor is a wealthy woman living an opulent lifestyle. That is until her husband suddenly announces he wants a divorce. Cutting her off from everything including her clothing and home, she suddenly finds herself in a place she never thought she’d return to.
Sam Kemp is also at a low point in her life. Her husband is severely depressed and unable to function. Her new boss is threatening to fire her. Life is pretty bleak until she accidentally mistakes her gym bag for Nisha Cantor’s bag.
Nisha’s husband tells her that any divorce settlement is contingent upon the return of the shoes. With no family to count on, Nisha’s left without money and no place to stay. She eventually finds support in a community that could least likely afford to help her.
Sam finds a new sense of confidence in Nisha’s shoes which sets her on a trajectory to a happier life. When Nisha and Sam eventually meet, the shoes are no longer where Sam had stored them. The duo and their friends begin an adventure which will change all of their lives and solve the mystery of the missing shoes and the importance of them.
I listened to the audiobook version of Someone Else’s Shoes which was narrated by Daisy Ridley. I enjoyed her charming performance which was easy to listen to. I’d recommend the audiobook version to those readers who enjoy this format.
What I Liked:
- The character development and interesting backstories
- The support that Nisha receives in a time of great need
- The sense of adventure and the element of mystery behind the shoes
