From the Publisher: “Where do you see yourself in five years?
When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.
But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future”.
My thoughts: Dannie is a young woman who has always known what she wants in life. To be engaged at a certain time, to be hired by her law firm of choice, and to have the life she has always wanted. On the night of her engagement, she falls asleep and wakes up for a quick visit to her life in 5 years time. But nothing makes sense. She’s not with her fiance David and she’s not in her own home. Who is this man who seems to know her so intimately?
Slowly over the next five years, pieces of this puzzle slowly come together. Her best friend Bella introduces Dannie to her new boyfriend – the man from her future. But this is hardly a romance novel. It is one about love and friendship in the most intimate sense. It is so beautifully written, this story will stay with me for many years to come.
I listened to the audiobook version of the book and loved the performance of Megan Hilty. She brings a confidence to the voice of Dannie, and a sweetness to Bella’s. Well done!
I highly recommend this book to those that enjoy contemporary fiction.
