Hi everyone! Sara Morgan is one of my favourite authors and I look forward to each new book. Her 2021 holiday book is The Christmas Escape. Set in Lapland, it has all the great character development and magic I’ve come to expect from this author.
From The Publisher:
It was supposed to be Christy Sullivan’s perfect Christmas getaway—a trip to Lapland with her family and best friend, Alix. But facing a make-or-break marriage crisis, Christy desperately needs time alone with her husband. Her solution? Alix can take Christy’s little daughter to Lapland, and they will reunite there for Christmas Day. It’s a big ask, but what else are friends for?
There’s nothing Alix won’t do for Christy. But Christy’s request to save Christmas is giving Alix sleepless nights. She knows something is wrong, but for the first time ever, Christy isn’t talking. And even the Arctic temperatures in Lapland aren’t enough to dampen the seriously inconvenient sizzle Alix is developing for Zac, a fellow guest and nemesis from her past.
As secrets unravel and unexpected romance shines under the northern lights, can Christy and Alix’s Christmas escape give them the courage to fight for the relationships they want, and save the precious gift of each other’s friendship?
Book Review:
I adored this book. The characters and history of their relationships were very well developed. The Lapland setting, in all its winter glory, made for the perfect escape for both the characters and the reader.
Christy and Alix have been best friends since childhood, but each was raised in complex family situations. As is often the case, the way these women view the world is a reflection of the way they were parented. Communication and conflict are central themes in this book.
Robyn is the third woman featured in this book. As the estranged Aunt of Christy, she feels it’s time to meet adult Christy and to reveal family secrets. She invites Christy and her family and friends to spend some time over the holidays at her resort in Lapland.
Lapland is the perfect setting for a Christmas novel. I appreciated the activities the group participates in and the festive mood it creates. The darling of the group is Christy’s four-year daughter who has an amazing vocabulary and not afraid to speak her mind.
The Christmas Escape is a joyful, holiday read that is perfect for those of you who appreciate a bit more depth to your Christmas reads.
What I Liked:
- The level of character development
- The emphasis on communication to gain perspective
- The Lapland setting
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers who enjoy Women’s fiction set at Christmas.
