The Dating Dare by Jayci Lee is a fun, steamy rom-com which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think it’s the perfect book for a laid back summer day. It is the second book in the author’s A Sweet Mess series, but it can be read as a standalone. The Dating Dare publishes on August 3.
Plot Summary
Tara Park has learned that it’s much easier not to date anyone seriously. She works in the family’s brew pub after a relationship gone bad ruined her future dreams of becoming a sommelier. When she meets her best friend’s new brother-in-law Seth, there is an instant attraction. His good looks and charm are undisputed. He is leaving for Paris is one month’s time to begin a new job that he has been working towards. A game of truth or dare over drinks leads to Seth proposing a challenge – go on four dates with him over the course of the next month with no strings attached. But will this couple be able to walk away from each other at the end of the month?
Book Review
This was a fun, cute read! I really enjoy the banter typical of rom-com’s and this one was loaded with it. The characters had many dates and not just the official four, but several of these had obstacles thrown in their way complicating their already interesting relationship. As their time together progresses, it was entertaining to watch them get closer and then realizing the their time together was short-lived causing them to back away from the relationship. Communication is a significant theme in this book and while some readers may feel frustrated with this couple, I opted to let the story play out as it was written.
Audiobook Review
I listened to the audiobook version of The Dating Dare which was narrated by Natalie Naudus. Her performance was expressive and with a tone that was easy to listen to. I would not hesitate to recommend this version of the book to those that appreciate this format.
What I Liked:
- The friends to lovers trope
- The banter which makes rom-com’s so entertaining to read
- The reminder to the reader of the importance of good communication
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers who enjoy a light-hearted friends to lovers rom-com.

I just watched a show where the hero played the antagonist not only for the freedom of a woman but also the shop he had put his life into, and find that I enjoy the gamble or game type of situation that throws people together in unexpected ways. The Dating Dare sounds bold, funny, and perfect.
