Hi everyone! Happy Publication Day to The House on Sunshine Corner! If you’re looking for a charming, second-chance romance set in a small town, look no further. This is the first book in a new series by author Phoebe Mills and an absolutely lovely read.
Plot Summary
Abby Engel is the proud owner of the Sunshine Corner daycare, which she runs with her good friends. She loves her Grandmother who has been like a mother to her most of her life and cherishes their life together. The only thing missing from Abby’s life is a man. She sees her friends getting married and having children and yet Abby has met no one she’d like to build a life with. That is, not since her high school boyfriend and love of her life left their hometown of Heart’s Hope Bay many years ago.
Carter Hayes was that man. He left town many years ago to pursue his dreams of being a successful architect. When he receives a call from his single-parent sister who needs his help, he returns to his hometown. Before long, he remembers the best parts of small-town living – and how much he still cares for Abby. Can they rekindle their romance in the few weeks that Carter will be in town?
Book Review
The House on Sunshine Corner is a sweet book. I enjoyed the magnetic pull between Abby and Carter that is featured throughout the book. The central characters are well developed and easy to like. The reasons for their breakup many years ago is well explained. The reader cannot help but feel compassion towards the two individuals while cheering them on as a couple in the process.
The author does a good job of describing the small community and its residents, setting up the reader for the next books in the series. There is a secondary story of a couple who are suddenly overwhelmed with the prospect of being new parents. The author does a great job in discussing the plethora of difficult decisions that need to be made during pregnancy and early infancy. All in all, a delightful book. I look forward to reading the second book in this series.

The cover instantly makes you happy, doesn’t it? And it’s always good to hear when stories are explained properly, nothing worse than a backstory that doesn’t quite make sense or get you feeling like you care.
