From The Publisher:
When Alice’s best friend, Gabby, is reeling from a breakup, Alice writes her a heartfelt story to cheer her up. While reading it in a café, Gabby, as if by magic, meets the man of her dreams. Thinking the story might have some special power to it, Gabby shares it with her sister and other friends, who all find instant love. Word of mouth spreads, and Alice stumbles upon a new calling—to be a love scribe.
But not all the love stories she writes unfold as expected. And while Alice tries to harness her extraordinary gift, she is summoned to a mansion in the woods where she encounters the reclusive Madeline Alger and her mysterious library. As Alice struggles to write a story for Madeline, her most challenging assignment yet, she’s forced to confront her own guarded heart. Because maybe—just maybe—there’s a love story waiting to be written for her, too.
Emotional, deeply imaginative and brimming with valuable life lessons, The Love Scribe explores love, fate and the power of stories when we choose to believe in them.
My Thoughts:
As an avid reader, I’ve always enjoyed stories about books. I enjoy the ability to be transported into another place and time and to spend time with the characters in these books. The Love Scribe is an immersive, magical story and one that I will likely never forget.
The story has everything I look for in a book: well-developed characters, detailed backstories and a touch of mystery. Alice is a woman who struggles to be a writer. When she writes her best friend Gabby a story to lift her spirits she has no idea about the magic her words hold. Those that read the story will find their true love.
Alice begins writing individual stories upon request and having these books bound as a side business. One day a request comes in the form of a letter with a cheque for Alice to meet with an elderly client Madeline who wants to find love once more.
A unique relationship forms between Alice and Madeline, the two sharing a unique bond. When Alice begins spending more and more time with Madeline, a mystery surrounding Madeline’s past is revealed. Without giving anything away, the two begin searching for the truth behind this mystery. The mystery and how it impacts these two women is the key message of this.
I listened to the audiobook version of The Love Scribe which was narrated by one of my favourites, Julia Whelan. I appreciate her lovely tone and expression in her performance. The quality of her voice makes for an enjoyable listen.
I recommend this book to those readers who enjoy Fiction and stories about books.
