Hi everyone! In my latest read, Susan Mallery shares the story of three stepsisters who have come together after spending years apart. If you enjoy family-related Women’s Fiction, The Stepsisters is for you.
Plot Summary
When Daisy’s Dad married Sage’s Mom when they were young, the two became stepsisters. Sage was the pretty girl while Daisy was the smart one. When Cassidy was born, the two sisters became three. Unfortunately, the marriage did not last and the girl’s relationships became strained. Sage eventually left the country. Daisy fell in love with Sage’s ex-fiancee Jordan, married him and they had two children. Now Jordan has left Daisy after leaving her a text that he had moved out.
Sage has recently returned to their hometown to live with her mother after living in Europe for many years. Then Daisy’s Dad notifies her that Cassidy has had a substantial fall and needs to recuperate at Daisy’s home. To better support Cassidy through her recovery, Sage and Daisy decide to come together. Will the sisters stay reunited after Cassidy heals?
Book Review
The Stepsisters is both entertaining and engaging. The characters are well written and their interactions are natural. A lot was going on in this story with plenty of interesting family dynamics. These sisters were substantially impacted by poor parenting from Sage and Cassidy’s mother Joanne whose belief is that beauty is everything.
The discussion about Daisy and Jordan’s marriage was interesting to read. Marriage is hard work and is constantly evolving. Without giving anything away, it was a realistic look at many long-lasting relationships- a topic not frequently discussed in books. The author communicates this with care and respect and I admire her ability to do so.
This is book is Women’s Fiction, with a touch of romance to create some balance. I appreciate books with family as central characters and love how this family came together to support one another during darker days.
Audiobook Review
I listened to the audiobook version of The Stepsisters which was narrated by Tanya Eby. She has narrated several other of Susan Mallery’s books and always gives a great performance. Her voice is articulate and her cadence is natural. If you enjoy audiobooks, I’d recommend this format.
What I Liked About The Stepsisters:
- The entertaining and engaging storyline
- The believable family dynamics
- The theme of better together represented in the book
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers who enjoy Women’s fiction and /or stories of family relationships.
