My Week:
It’s been a lovely week here in Vancouver. We have had warmer than normal temperatures and plenty of sunshine this week and my garden is in a full spring display of colour. In the past two weeks my maple trees have leafed out. I love to see these signs of garden renewal.
We have been new car shopping this week. We know we want a hybrid compact SUV but supply issues that started during COVID remain. Some dealers have said there factories have been closed to new orders for 18 months already with no sign of opening up. We’ve also been told that there is an issue with people finally getting their new vehicles and then putting them up for auction. The dealers are hungry for new inventory so have to see these auction-purchased vehicles at $5000-$10000 over usual asking price. There is also the additional fees/markups with mysterious names that add another $6000 to the MSRP besides the sales taxes. Things have changed a lot in the twenty years since we last bought a vehicle!
What I’m Watching:
I’m looking forward to watching “The Idea Of You” on Amazon Prime which releases May 2. It stars Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galizine and is the story of a forty-something single mom who hits it off with a 24 year old pop star.

Good luck with your car shopping. FYI, I vowed never to buy new again when I figured out my brand held its value forever. Heartily suggest you consider a certified pre-owned good brand. I’m driving one now that I’ve owned for six years now with nothing other than scheduled maintenance. Same for hubby. And, mine was three years old when I got it. Just a suggestion.
Have a great week!

Thanks Jonetta!

Best of luck with getting hold of a replacement car!! Our main car is getting on in years and I’m DREADING the day when we need to buy something newer. It’s a lovely time of year – glad you are having warmer days. We have more sunshine and it’s finally stopped raining, but sadly the wind is bitterly cold! Have a good week:).

Good luck with car shopping. THe chip shortage is still badly messing with the supplies of new vehicles. And used cars are still hard to find. So I hope you manage to get what you want.

Ooh, The Idea of You sounds good! I’ll have to check that one out! Car issues are still crazy around here. In the past you could get one dealership to ship the car you wanted, these days they won’t because they want to sell it at their location, I found that out a few years ago when I wanted to get a new car. I hope you get that figured out! Our weather here has gone up and down! Had a frost warning this morning, it’s crazy!

Our lease is up in July and we’ll be searching for a new SUV as well. Things are a little better here, but prices are up.

Good luck in July Kimberly!

Good luck with your car shopping… it’s not easy these days! We got a new car early last year after one of ours was destroyed by Hurricane Ian in 2022 and actually ended up paying some ridiculous fee on top of the sticker price! I wanted to walk away, but it was exactly what my husband was looking for. Sigh.

I hear you JoAnn. I’m sorry about losing your car.

We have talked about getting a new car, but it seems ridiculous for us to pay such absurdly high prices for a car while my car continues to run beautifully. I do wish I had a car that was a little bigger. My sister and her husband each got a new car just before he retired, and they paid top dollar and had to wait a long time for delivery.
I’m glad you have had such great weather there. We got a cold front in today and it’s beautiful!

I know the feeling about buying a new car, but it’s been 20 years for us and it was time. I’m hoping my lovely old car finds a new loving home. I’m glad you’re enjoying your cold front Deb!

I hate car shopping but my brother loves it. He did the last time with me. I bought a Chevy Volt on 1-1-18. I get about 50+ miles electric every day and only get gas about once a year for a trip. It was used but only 6 months old with 9500 miles. I have only had a couple recalls and 3 oil changes. I think I will drive it until it dies. I hope you find what you want.

Glad the weather’s finally warming up for you guys! It’s BURNING here in the Philippines lol. 😭 So jealous that you have a garden as well! We have a few potted plants here, but there’s not much we can do beyond that. Anyway, have a fantastic week! <33

Can you grow orchids outside where you are Aimee? I love them!

I’ve heard a little bit about supply issues when covid hit, but it sounds like it’s gotten worse. I hope you’re able to find something soon! Have a great week Jodie!

I had wanted to get a new vehicle this year, but changed my mind when I saw prices and issues with delivery. I am driving a 12 year old vehicle and it still runs great. I make sure I get all my routine maintenance done and will hold off a bit longer. Good luck Jodie. I am also loving the signs of spring. My bushes are greening up, but the weeds are taking over.

Weeds are my nemesis too Carla!
