My Week:
It’s been a busy, crazy week! Since my last post, we had a massive local event cause chaos on our street. People were parking everywhere on the street – including blocking access to the street to ambulance and firefighters. Someone parked blocking our access to our driveway for 6 hours. We had phoned the city to have them towed but the tow truck couldn’t get down our street. Nor could the bylaw officers get through to ticket them. This event happens each year and has more than 550,000 people attend. The city needs to do a better job in ensuring the safety of those living on the street. I have called the department responsible for planning this event and hopefully I will hear back soon.
We also bought a new hybrid vehicle! We absolutely love it and so happy we were able to find it. Our old car was purchased nearly 20 years ago and sold the day after I advertised it. Later in the week our garage door began opening up on its own randomly (i.e. without using the remote). Given that it’s 33 years old, it’s time to invest in the newer technology and have the opener replaced. In the meantime, we are unplugging and plugging in the unit as needed.
I’ve been too busy to do much reading this week. Hopefully things return to a more normal schedule next week.
What I’m Watching:
I’m looking forward to watching the movie “Float” on Crave here in Canada (I’m not sure if it’s available to stream elsewhere). The movie stars Andrea Bang who I enjoyed watching on the show Kim’s Convenience. The movie was shot here in my province of BC and is the story of a young medical student who decides to take a break from her parent’s expectations.

It is awful being blocked in. We have a skip outside the back gate we had to complain about. We cannot open the gate fully. I feel your pain.

I feel it’s disrespectful Jamie. I can’t understand the lack of insight of some people Jamie.

Our streets are always jam packed as well — but there aren’t any events here or anything, just human lack of discipline, unfortunately. It has always been this irrational (or, well, it is kind of rational) fear for me that one day, a huge fire will break out and firetrucks won’t be able to get into our streets. ANYWAY, on the bright side, congrats on your new vehicle!! That’s so awesome. Definitely need to get that garage door fixed to keep your new baby safe lol. <3

Sounds like an interesting (and at times annoying) week! I hope this upcoming week is better in all the ways! Happy Reading.

Thank you Cindy!

Wow that crazy we don’t tend to have big events of that size but in the summer the local park across the street can really packed and sometimes people park in our driveway which can get annoying. Congrats on the new vehicle sounds like it was about time to get a new one. Have a great reading week.

Thank you Jan.

Oh my gosh! How crazy to have the garage door just randomly opening! When the police pull people over for speeding off the more main street that I live on a side street from, sometimes they park in front of my driveway. And I’m like, really? Surely the police know better than that, right? Hope you have a good week!

Congratulations on your new vehicle Jodie. I’m glad you were able to get what you were looking for. That must be so frustrating for you and everyone else affected by the crazy traffic and parking. I agree, they need to do some better planning for next year. Have a wonderful week.

Thanks Carla!
JoAnn @ Gulfside Musing
Congratulations on your new hybrid vehicle! It’s great that you sold your old car right away, too. Crazy that you were blocked out of your own driveway for that long and couldn’t do anything about it! Have a good week!

Thank you JoAnn!

Ugh that is awful. Congrats on the new car though.

Thanks Hena.
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
My sister lives down the street from a church, and Sundays are very frustrating for her. She’s tried everything to get people to stop blocking her—and it’s crazy because she wants to be able to get out to go to her own church! lol
Enjoy your new car!

Thanks Deb. Oh once a week would be very frustrating for sure!
Anne - Books of My Heart
We used to have a 4th of July event and also Art on the Lake which were near our home in MN. We had a few cones and placed them in the way. Exciting about the new vehicle – what did you get? I have a Volt hybrid but my brother’s family mostly has Tesla. Nice that the old one sold easily too.

Oh, wow! That event sounds crazy!! So sorry you have to deal with that every year.

Thanks Nicole.
Aj @ Read All The Things!
I feel your parking pain. There a swimming pool down the street from my house with a very tiny parking lot. Whenever they host swimming competitions, people park EVERYWHERE. It’s pretty much impossible to leave my house.

Urg! Don’t blame you for complaining!! I always spare a thought for people living in extremely popular places – like some of the tiny fishing villages in Cornwall, where they are so crammed with people you cannot even drive through the streets in the summer. But knowing no one could come if you needed help must have been worrying. Glad you’re enjoying your new car so much – we’ve also decided we’d prefer a hydrid when we need to replace our elderly car… There simply aren’t enough charging docks around the place to switch to a wholly electric car just yet in the UK. Have a great week, Jodie:)).

Congratulations on the new vehicle, Jodie! That’s terrible that you were blocked in. I hope you hear back soon, what a stressful thing to deal with. I hope you have a great week Jodie!

Rolé @ Hooked By That Book
It is super annoying when people don’t have respect for community parking, but also if there’s a lack of parking when events happen and then people end up parking wherever they feel like it.

I’m glad you agree Rolé!
