My Week:
We are having the most glorious weather for this time of the year! Lots of sun, warm temperatures, and it feels more like the end of August than it does October. We’ve had only a tenth of our normal rainfall since mid-July are experiencing drought conditions. But this is called Raincouver for a reason and we know it’s just a matter of time before the rainy season begins. Until then, I’m going to enjoy every moment I can.
I’ve been contemplating getting the new Kindle Scribe since it was announced this week. I love the idea of a new 10” paperwhite screen to give the feel of hardback book. It also features note taking ability which might be useful to help take notes for book reviews. Having said the pros, the biggest con for me is the pricepoint – $429 here in Canada for the basic model. Is anyone else looking at getting this new Kindle?

What I’m Watching:
One of the first books I read back in 2019 as a Netgalley reader was Tembi Locke’s “From Scratch”. If you haven’t read this memoir, it is one of the most memorable books I’ve ever read. The author (who is also an actor) recounts her relationship with her late husband and the importance of food in their lives. Tembi and her author-sister Attica Locke co-created the production so I hope it does the book justice. This limited-series starts October 21 on Netflix:

The Sunday Post #26
That’s a wrap for The Sunday Post #25 . I wish you a wonderful week ahead!
Carla
Our weather has been quite cool. We went from hot, hot to chilly overnight. I did get in the pool a couple of times this week, but the temps were only 19. I am closing the pool on Thanksgiving, so want to get a few more days out of it. I’ve not read From Scratch, but I will see if my library has it, it sounds interesting. I am also hoping to read or listen to Built to Last this week. Have a wonderful week, Jodie.

I hope that you can get in a few more days of swimming this week Carla. I hope you love From Scratch as much as I did. Thanks for reading.
BonnieReadsAndWrites
I hadn’t heard about the Scribe. I’ll have to look it up.

I’d love to know your thoughts Bonnie!
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Hi from your Seattle neighbor – and yes, we’ve been enjoying the MOST beautiful Sept. as well. I love these sunny still pleasantly warm days but cool nights. The wildfire smoke has made the horizon hazy, but hasn’t impacted our air quality TOO badly. Have a great week and enjoy your book!

Thanks Terrie! I hope that you have a great week too!
Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
You got some good books it looks like! I just got my first Kindle earlier this year when my Nook started acting up after the many years that I’d had it. So I am not in the market for a new one for a while I hope! Anyway, hope you have a good week!

Thanks Lisa! I hope you have a great week as well.
Samantha
I saw the scribe but I don’t really care for the note taking feature. I love my oasis though. Have a great week!
thathappyreader
Thanks Samantha. The Oasis is nice too. I hope you have a great week.
Christina Trama
From Scratch is on my list also! Hoping to start it this week. Going to read some reviews on the books you list and add some to my ‘want to read’ list.
thathappyreader
I hope you love From Scratch as much as I did Christina! Please let me know your thoughts! Thanks for reading.
Vicki
I’m thinking about getting the new Kindle Scribe but I already have a Voyage, Fire & Paperwhite so I haven’t made up my mind yet. I’ve got so many books on them that I haven’t even started that it’s ridiculous!
I have The Lies I Tell on my list to read.
I may get a copy of From Scratch. I looked it up and it sounds very good. I’d like to read it and then watch the Netflix series.
I hope you have a great week!
thathappyreader
Thanks Vicki! I hope that you decide to read From Scratch and love it as much as I did. Thanks for reading!
Sarah Roberts
Nice read, have a good week ahead.

Thanks for reading Sarah!
Greg
The weather has rebounded here a bit. After getting cold and very fall-ish it has warmed up (a little) over the last couple days. I have a Paperwhite and really like it but the one you’re talking about does sound nice with the larger size- hope you love it if you take th plunge! 🙂
thathappyreader
Thanks Greg! I do love reading off the paperwhite but really appreciate the larger screen (like my ipad) size. Have a wonderful week ahead.
Anne - Books of My Heart
Yay for great weather. Fall is the best. OK I like our long spring here too. I’m curious about the Julie Clark book, it’s the Audible daily deal today I think. I no longer read on any Kindle just my iphone. The Kindle was always so slow where my phone is immediate for bringing up books or turning pages.

I loved The Lies I Tell and if you love thrillers it’s a good one. I don’t find the paperwhite to be sluggish and find it’s much easier on my eyes that an Ipad or Iphone to read off of for any length of time but we all have our own preferences!
Sara
From Scratch looks so good – I haven’t read the book but definitely would love to watch the Netflix adaptation!
Ah yes, Raincouver! When I lived in Van, I remember it rained so much it reminded me of my hometown weather (northern bc, by the coast).
Take care and have a great week!
thathappyreader
Based on the weather on our news if you were near Prince Rupert I’d say you had a lot more rain than we do here on the south coast! I hope we both enjoy the Netflix adaptation. Thanks for reading!
Wendy Williams
I enjoyed that clip from Scratch. I haven’t read the book, but the series sure looks good. I hope you enjoy all this nice weather while you can. I’ll be reading Built to Last this week too.
thathappyreader
Thanks Wendy! I think there are several of us reading Built to Last this week – I hope that we all enjoy it!
Jenni Elyse
I’m glad you’re having a nice weather. I have a Kindle Oasis and I love mine to death. I can take notes on it already and the screen is big enough for me so I’m not planning to get the new one. Maybe once my Oasis starts slowing down, since they inevitably always do, I’ll look into upgrading. Hopefully, by then, the price will be lower too.

Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
I haven’t heard that there is a new Kindle. Now I’ve looked it up, and it looks great. It’s not quite so expensive here. I will think about it. Thanks for the heads up.
The Most Likely Club looks like fun.
