My Week:
The weather here in Vancouver has been a mixed bag this week. We’ve had some clear, sunny days with cooler than normal temperatures alongside a couple of days of heavy rain. It has also been windy at times creating a perfect scenario for the trees to shed leaves these week.
I’m enjoying the Hallmark Christmas movies which help relax me in the evenings as things in my family of origin remain stressful. I went with my brother to a specialist’s appointment and he has more tests that need to be done next month. My Dad also had an appointment with our family doctor and has been referred back to his surgeon as he has some new suspicious areas where his cancer has been. My Mom continues to be more stabilized now but feels the stress of more impending surgery for my Dad. He’s had many surgeries in the past few years and although he’s a fighter I can see he is very tired of all of this. It’s so hard to see loved ones go through these procedures – particularly hard with they overlap with one another. I know many of you unfortunately understand this. Thank you for any thoughts and prayers.
As I wrote last week I’m participating in a Canadian Cancer Society cycling challenge where I have to ride 150 km during November. I want to keep myself accountable by posting my results here so here are my results so far for the first 3 days of the challenge:
I’ve made a slight change to The Sunday Post. I have moved the “What I Read This Week” and “What I Hope to Read Next Week” portions of the post to my weekly Monday Matters post. This will allow me to link my Monday Matters post to a new weekly meme.
What I’m Watching:
A movie I’ve wanted to watch for some time became available on Netflix this week and it did not disappoint. “NYAD” stars Annette Bening and Jodie Foster and is based on the autobiography of Diana Nyad called “Find A Way”. At the age of 64, Diana became the first person ever to swim from Cuba to Florida. As expected, the acting is superb and the story compelling. I also admire both Bening and Foster who are obviously both in fantastic physical shape – also very inspiring.

Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
Keeping your family in my prayers. I do understand about your parents for sure with my stepfather undergoing chemo right now. And just knowing my mom is also extra stressed and not taking care of her own health in some ways because she feels she needs to put him first and forget about herself. So my brother and I have to keep hounding her to take care of herself so we don’t end up like we did last April with both of them in the hospital. I love that you’re doing that challenge! That is awesome! Here’s hoping for a good week for us both!

It’s been windy here too, and the leaves are flying. All my prayers and best wishes for your family members. It IS tough. I’m going through similar with my mom, and the health issues do takes a toll. Movies especially the comforting ones can be a way to recharge…
thathappyreader
Thanks Greg. I’m praying for your Mom too.
Carla
I’m so sorry to hear your family is going through so many health struggles, Jodie. I will continue to keep them in my prayers. I have also been enjoying the Hallmark movies. Are you taking sponsors for your challenge? Having lost my husband and both my parents to cancer, I always support any fundraising.
thathappyreader
I’m so sorry that cancer has affected you and your loved ones Carla. I am taking donations but it’s through Facebook which I know some are uncomfortable donating through. The link is https://www.facebook.com/donate/1722993201531841/ . Feel free to donate separately if you would feel better doing so. I appreciate the sentiment either way!
Sarah
Wishing you peace with caring for loved ones. We had that last year and it is so stressful. I hope you can find things to escape into.
