My Week:
It’s been a very rainy week here in Vancouver and we are in the midst of several atmospheric rivers this week not expected to clear until Tuesday or Wednesday. For those of you who are not familiar with this term, here is the NOAA’s definition: “Atmospheric rivers are relatively long, narrow regions in the atmosphere – like rivers in the sky – that transport most of the water vapor outside of the tropics.” The only good thing about these events is that they are accompanied by warmer temperatures. Let me know if you get these in your area as well.
My brother remains in hospital but has made vast progress this week. After 10 weeks, his IV antibiotics are scheduled to end on Monday. He is up ambulating frequently and his appetite is picking up slowly. We are hopeful that he will be discharged next week. I also attended my Dad’s cancer therapy teaching with my parents as well this week and he will begin treatment soon. As my brother lives with my parents, it will be nice to see to all of their needs in one place when he returns home.
What I’m Watching:
We watched “The Hill” on Netflix this week and am recommending it to anyone that enjoys an inspirational story. It’s the true story of Ricky Hill who strives to be a professional baseball player despite having a degenerative spinal disease.

Lisa Mandina (Lisa Loves Literature)
It’s so great to be close enough to be there for your family like this. I’m glad your brother is getting to go home. Hope your dad’s treatment goes well too. We’ve been getting some warmer temps here finally, almost all of the snow is melted. I haven’t heard our newscasters talk about the rivers, but as an Earth Science major back when I was in college, I do remember talking about that type of scenario. Have a good week!

Anne - Books of My Heart
It’s good to hear your family is having some progress on the medical front. It was warm and humid this week. If it rained it was at night.

I’m never heard of an atmospheric river. That’s really interesting. Thanks for sharing about that. Sorry you have to deal with it, though.
I’m glad your brother’s doing better. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that he gets released this week. And, I’ll continue to send you and your family happy and healing thoughts regarding both your brother and dad. *hugs*

That’s interesting about the atmospheric rivers. Have never heard about it. Enjoy the warmer weather while it lasts. Here in Calgary we get Chinook winds from the mountains that bring warmer weather. Only it usually doesn’t feel a lot warmer, because it could be windy, but the snow melts at least. We get a blanket cloud covering the city that you can see originating on the Rockies.

Yes I think it’s more a coastal weather phenomenon Rolé.
Kathryn Trask
Yes we get atmospheric rivers here in New Zealand and some of them have caused huge flooding. Not near me so far and hope it stays that way. Hope all the health issues continue to be developing well. Will see if we have The Hill on NFlix here as am looking for something to watch.
