My Week:
I hope that everyone who celebrates had a wonderful Christmas! The windy and rainy storms persisted, but we were grateful that the roads were dry and the wind had calmed, making it easier to visit both sides of the family on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, meteorologists warned of high winds, and I was especially thankful that the power stayed on while I was cooking Christmas dinner. It was lovely to catch up with family, and I felt so grateful that everyone was healthy enough to celebrate this joyous occasion. Thursday and Friday brought dry, mild weather during the day, which allowed us to enjoy a long walk together and reflect on the beauty of the holiday season.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, Edelweiss+ & Libro.fm:
None. I have 4 outstanding requests.
From The Library:
Beatriz Williams weaves a poignant tale of heartbreak and redemption across generations and continents. In contemporary New England, single mother Mallory Dunne is desperate to find a kidney donor for her son, Sam, whose life was forever changed by a near-fatal poisoning. Her search forces her to confront two painful secrets: her mother’s adoption from a notorious Irish orphanage and her own long-ago romance with childhood friend Monk Adams, now a global music icon. Meanwhile, in 1951 Cairo, Hungarian refugee Hannah Ainsworth, married to a British diplomat, embarks on a passionate affair amidst the city’s revolutionary turmoil, only to face sacrifices that will reverberate through time. With its richly drawn characters and evocative settings, this bittersweet novel explores privilege, class, and the female experience, creating an unforgettable journey from midcentury Egypt to modern-day New England.
What I’m Watching:
We watched The Six Triple Eight on Netflix this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s the story of 855 black female soldiers who were given the impossible task of delivering 17 million pieces of mail to the soldiers during WWII under discriminatory conditions. It stars Kerry Washington, Ebony Obsidian and Milauna Jackson.
