My Week:
It’s been a relatively quiet week for me. Aside from meeting some of my former coworkers for lunch on Wednesday, I’ve mostly been staying home, going for walks, and reading. As a Canadian, I’ve been avoiding the news as much as possible—it only leaves me feeling angry, anxious, and frustrated. If you know, you know. I’ve also been keeping those affected by the wildfires in California in my prayers. This weekend, the extended family is gathering to celebrate my Mom’s 84th birthday, which we’re all looking forward to.
We’ve had quite a few foggy days this week—unusual for January. There were a couple of rainy days, but we finally enjoyed some dry, partly cloudy weather. Interestingly, 2024 saw more rainfall locally than any year since the turn of the century, though other parts of the province remain very dry.
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, Edelweiss+ & Libro.fm: None. I have four outstanding requests.
From The Library:
Ninety-year-old Eddie Winston, a true gentleman and romantic, has lived a full life but has never been kissed. He spends his days volunteering at a charity shop, preserving tokens and letters of love from donations, where he meets Bella, a grief-stricken 24-year-old who has just lost the love of her life. Determined to help Eddie experience love, Bella embarks on an adventure with him, leading to unexpected places and the hope of fulfilling Eddie’s lifelong dream. This heartwarming tale of friendship and kindness reminds us that love endures and it’s never too late to start anew.
Emily Walker, a romance writer with a secret literary side hustle, is horrified when her long-time nemesis, Jack Bennett, returns to Rome, Kentucky, as both her colleague and neighbour after calling off his engagement. Jack, a bestselling mystery author, is eager to settle back into town but finds himself delighting in thwarting Emily’s attempts to sabotage his return. When Emily accidentally sends an email that could expose her secret, she reluctantly teams up with Jack to retrieve her manuscript. As their chemistry-fueled animosity reaches new heights, their unlikely alliance might just lead to an unexpected—and steamy—plot twist.
What I’m Watching:
I enjoyed the first episode of a new medical drama series on regular TV titled Doc. It’s the story of a Dr. Amy Larsen who suffers a head injury in a car accident and loses the last eight years of her life. It stars Molly Parker.

That’s a wrap on The Weekend Post #138. How was your week?
I wish you a wonderful holiday week ahead!
Jonetta | Blue Mood Café
Yeah, I’ve stayed away from the news, too, other than to learn about the LA County fires, which is beyond heartbreaking. I did turn to hear the “sentencing” on Friday morning😏 I also got Eddie Winston from the library and have a hold on the Sarah Adams book. Great feedback about Doc so thank you.
Have a great week!

I hope you enjoy them Jonetta!
Harvee
I’m in the middle of a new book and can’t seem to finish it. We have had a busy January so far – two funerals in the first two weeks of the new year. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to make the one down south. Have an enjoyable week.
thathappyreader
Oh my Harvee. I’m so sorry to hear this.
Carla@CarlaLovesToRead
Sometimes a quiet week is a good week. Happy Birthday to your mom, Jodie. My heart breaks for all the people in California who have lost everything in the fires. I wish my library had Eddie Winston in audiobook, but not yet. Have an enjoyable week, Jodie.

You too Carla!

I read Eddie Winston is Looking for Love over Christmas, Jodie. It is absolutely delightful! I hope you enjoy it too. 💖📚

Thanks Sandy!
Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog
I like to stay informed, but the news is pretty depressing these days, and seemingly getting more and more ridiculous.
A good load of books there.
Have a good week.

You too Emily.

Happy birthday to your mom! Enjoy the gathering!
Beg, Borrow, or Steal sounds fun. It’s been a while (too long!) since I’ve read a good romance.

Thank you Deb!
Carla
I always avoid the news. However my husband tells me about it but it’s not like I can escape it. Doc sounds good.
Happy reading!
thathappyreader
Yes I have my husband telling me about the grim news too Carla so I can definitely relate.

Beg, Borrow or Steal is on my TBR. It sounds good! We had tons of snow here this past week and I had a week off of school! But back to the real world tomorrow.

Wow you must have had a lot of snow Lisa!

Yah, I won’t get all politic-y or anything since I don’t know who you or what you support, but I will say that as a Californian, we are ready to accept Elizabeth May’s offer to add us as a Province. 🙂 Please!!! Take us! Save us!
thathappyreader
I would love that Jinger! I hope you’re not near the fire zone!

Anne - Books of My Heart
Well you are fortunate to be in Canada since the US is going in the wrong direction. I also have a review of Beautiful Ugly this week. We got about an inch of snow but lots of freezing rain. There’s plenty of challenges out there with fires, snow etc.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

Yes there certainly is.

I am with you in needing to limit my news intake. It’s so aggravating. Those of us in Southern California are so grateful to the Canadian firefighters who have come to aid in putting out the L.A. County fires. Happy birthday to your mom! I hope her birthday celebration was wonderful. I am sure she enjoyed having her family around her. Beg, Borrow, and Steal is on my radar. It sounds like it will be a good one. I hope you have a great week, Jodie!
thathappyreader
Thank you LF! You too!

I like to be informed and I know. I check the news each morning from multiple sources and then shut it off. Your week sounds like it was lovely.
