My Week:
Happy Flag Day in Canada! Today marks the 60th anniversary of the adoption of our current Canadian flag. I’ve added a Canadian flag to my website recently to show my patriotism and love of this beautiful country.
It’s been a busy week of appointments, and I’m relieved to have several of them behind us—though we still have more coming up next week. My Dad’s most recent bloodwork results were very good and as always I am relieved. My hubby and I enjoyed a lovely meal out for Valentine’s Day, which was a nice break from the routine.
The weather has been colder than usual for the past two weeks, but at least there hasn’t been any snow in the past week. The forecast is calling for a return to more seasonal temperatures along with some rain.
I made the decision to close my X (twitter) account this week and it feels good. Meanwhile, we’ve been closely following the news as this rollercoaster ride continues. I’m feeling just as unsettled as I did in the early days of COVID. Anyone else feeling the same way?
Books I’ve Added to My Shelves This Week:
From Publishers, Netgalley, Edelweiss+ & Libro.fm: None. I’m only requesting audiobooks these past few months. I have accepted invitations from publishers to read but I’ve loved the freedom of not having the deadlines of reading a galley. I’m not a re-reader and my public library is teriffic.
From The Library:
Oona Kelly Webster, a New York editor and mother of two, watches her 25-year marriage crumble when her husband, Charles, refuses to join her on their silver anniversary trip to France, delivering news that shatters her world. Unable to cancel her plans, she travels to Milly-la-Forêt in February 2020, only to find herself stranded when France enters lockdown. As she navigates heartbreak in an unfamiliar country, an unexpected connection with a famous Hollywood actor renting a nearby château offers the possibility of healing—and a reminder that life can change in an instant.
Lila Kennedy is juggling a failing career, a broken marriage, two rebellious daughters, a crumbling house, and an elderly stepfather who has seemingly moved in. Her love life is a mess, and just when things couldn’t get more chaotic, her estranged father—who abandoned her for Hollywood 35 years ago—shows up unannounced. Though she’s long believed she could never forgive him, his return forces her to rethink what love and family truly mean.
What I’m Watching:
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy is available to stream on Peacock in the U.S. and on Prime Video in Canada. I have loved this series which stars Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant and although I know this one will be emotional I’m really looking forward to it. It’s hard to believe that the first movie in the series came out in 24 years ago. Any other Bridget Jones fans out there?

I wish you a wonderful week ahead!

I’m glad your dad’s bloodwork was good. I’m not a rereader for the most part but do enjoy audiobooks as rereads. That way if my mind drifts all is okay, Have a great week!

You too Carla!

Happy Flag Day 🇨🇦 Glad your father seems to be faring well. I’m probably a lot more unsettled than you are as I watch our government collapse. Asking for prayers.
I’m still needing to start the Sweet Magnolias new season. I think today is today! Have a great reading week, Jodie💜

I feel very badly for those of you in the US as well Jonetta. Take care my friend.
Joy Weese Moll
Definitely feeling unsettled. I’m going to a protest on Monday to see if that dissipates some energy in a positive direction.

I hope it does Joy!
Tina
Happy flag day to you! Glad your dad’s bloodwork was good and you had a meal out for Valentines.
I also closed my twitter/X account a while back. Can’t abide musk and it’s just not the same as it was years ago.

Thank you Tina. I couldn’t agree more.
Wendy

The news are certainly concerning these days. Glad we have reading and blogging to distract us a bit. It seems a lot of people are leaving X these days. Sounds like a good choice.
thathappyreader
I certainly think so Stargazer!
Deb Nance at Readerbuzz
Yes, I, too, feel that same sense of uncertainty about the future that I felt during the pandemic. But I feel there is nothing I can do to change the actions that are taking place. Today I am focusing on the birds outside my window, hoping I can contribute to the world in a positive way through the Great Backyard Bird Count. And, of course, reading and writing.
Happy Flag Day!

Thank you Deb.
Erin @ Cracker Crumb Life
Yay for your dad!! That is great news!!
I am also feeling very unsettled and helpless. I am trying to find the good that I can in everyday for the moment.
thathappyreader
Thank you Erin. That’s all we can do right now, right?

I watched the new Bridget Jones movie last night, and I cried. A lot. I’m sure maybe I still have my stepdad’s death fresh in my mind and watching my mom deal with his loss at times hit close to home with the movie. It was so good though! I noticed you’d added the flag to your blog, I love it! Happy Flag day! Hope you have a good week!
thathappyreader
Thanks Lisa. I cried and laughed and the Bridget Jones movie!
Cindy's Book Corner
Yay that your dad’s bloodwork was good. We got slammed with snow today, the storm started earlier than predicted and it’s supposed to go into late tonight. However, it’s only snowing lightly right now, so maybe it won’t be so bad. I hope you have a great week.

Thank you Cindy!
Anne - Books of My Heart
I’m glad the medical tests are going well. I’ve visited Canada a few times over the years and have many Canadian friends. I love Canada. I hate the crazy things happening here. I closed my personal Twitter but left the blog one. I don’t know how long I will leave it. I don’t visit anything but Bluesky and Discord these days. I can check that things posted through FS Poster which is working well. I love my library but the offerings have shrunk over the past year.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

Thank you Anne.
Emily @ Budget Tales Book Blog
Happy Flag day. Glad that your dad’s results were good. It has been cold here.
The news is very depressing right now so I tend to just see the headlines, moan about how crazy the world is and then watch children’s programmes with my sons 😂
Have a great week!

Thank you Emily.

Unsettled is a great word to use to describe how people are feeling, even on the other side of the world
I think Bridget Jones is still in theatres here. I might take myself off to see it this week

I absolutely adored the movie and hope that you do too Marg!
