If you’re looking for a steamy romance novel with plenty of story, What If You & Me is for you. It’s the second book in the author’s Say Everything series, but it can certainly be read as a standalone.
Plot Summary
Andi Lockley is a horror novelist and true crime podcaster. After a traumatic event as a teenager, she’s made it her mission to warn other women about potential dangerous situations they might find themselves in. One late night while watching a horror movie, she meets her landlord and next door neighbour Hill Dawson whose believes she is being brutally attacked and comes to rescue her.
Hill isn’t without his own traumatic past. While working on the job as a firefighter, he suffers a career ending injury that has him on a disability pension. He and Andi become friends, eventually with benefits, but could they be more to one another?
Book Review
I really enjoyed this contemporary romance and found it highly entertaining. It was refreshing to find a story where both main characters suffered from Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The author did a great job of informing the reader about the complexities of those who suffer from this disorder. The theme of this book is learning to feel safe again after a traumatic event in order to love yourself and others.
I enjoyed the faster pace of this book which held my engagement. It has many moments of levity to balance out the more serious moments. Indeed, there are several scenes which had me laughing out loud. Those readers that enjoy some steam in their romance novels will particularly appreciate this book.
Audiobook Review
I listened to the audiobook version of What If You & Me which was narrated by Desiree Ketchum who provided a great performance. Her voice was crisp and enthusiastic and is was a pleasure to listen to. I would not hesitate to recommend the audiobook version of this book to those who appreciate this format.
What I Liked About What If You & Me:
- The fact that both central characters suffered from PTSD – a disorder not often discussed in romance novels
- The chemistry between Andi and Hill
- The use of humour interspersed with more serious elements
I Recommend This Book To:
Those readers that enjoy open door contemporary romance.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
