Who Wears it Better? – December 2021

Who Wears It Better?
  1. Sadie

It amazes me how different covers for the same book for different countries can be! This was a fun post, thank you.

  2. Mehsi

Love both the Malibu Rising covers, such pretty colours! And a Season of Second Chances, definitely left! As for the last book (just like the first book), unsure, neither cover is really saying YAS/buy me. XD The Vanishing Half, didn’t know there were two covers, think I am going for right there~

Thanks for sharing your choices Mehsi!

  3. Susan1375

I love the original cover for good night beautiful, it seems to represent the book so much more than the U.K. Version. Have you ever compared the mill and boom modern covers U.K. v US they are totally different.

    1. thathappyreader

Thanks Susan. I tend to compare books I’ve read and note that there is a different cover when I post my review on Goodreads.

  4. Amy

This was a very interesting post! I enjoyed deciding my favorite.

I hadn’t visited your site before, glad I found it.

Thank you for visiting! I’m glad that you’ve found it too!

  5. Colleen

The Malibu Rising cover on the left makes me want to read the book way more. The one on the right looks cheesier. I know you’re not supposed to judge books like that, but I’d pick up the left one but not the right! I don’t know if it’s the font or what.

And I would pick the US (right side) of A Season for Second Chances. Again, the one on the right is just less appealing.

I’m also super curious about why they changed the title… I know they have “winter” in the US, too! Very strange.

Thanks Colleen! I think the change in title is really interesting too!

  6. Hayley

This was a lot of fun to think about! I think I have a slight preference towards the UK covers except for the Jenny Bayliss one – I agree with you, the cat is a big factor in that decision! And as for Goodnight Beautiful, I’m more drawn towards the paperback cover. I love the colours. 🙂

  7. Eri

I always find interesting how different covers are created for the same book. I do agree with you and that the UK cover for the Vanishing Half is a better image to reflect the story of the book. Loved your choices!

  8. Headphonesthoughts

I’m from the us and I never knew that books had different covers in the uk I assumed they were the same this whole time. I personally like both designs from both countries.

    1. thathappyreader

Not all books have different covers, but I’m finding quite a wide variety of them! Thanks for reading.

  9. Vourneen

I love these posts! I always scroll really slowly and make my decision before I read your favourite – but this time they were the same!

    1. thathappyreader

I’m glad you’re enjoying these posts Vourneen! They are fun for me as well. ☺️

  10. Katie

I love this series! I think it’s so fun. I agree with most of your choices, but I like the UK version of Malibu Rising. The colors are more vibrant and really draw your eye in.

    1. thathappyreader

I’m glad that you enjoy it Katie! Thanks for reading!

  11. Flora Gatehouse

Love this post, Jodie. 💚 I’ve swapped to audiobooks only this year and I’ve noticed this discrepancy in cover designs too. I look forward to seeing which covers you spot next time!

    1. thathappyreader

I read about 60 audiobooks per year Flora and have found this to be my favourite format for books. Thanks for reading.

  12. Faye

I love hearing your reasoning behind choosing one over the other. It’s crazy how different the covers can be!

It really is Faye! Thanks for reading.

  13. Fritzie

I like the original cover of Goodnight Beautiful. The Malibu Rising US cover is nice too. I didn’t like both the covers of The Vanishing Half, but I agree that the UK cover represents the book more. I also prefer the UK cover of The Winter of Second Chances and This Time Next Year.

Thanks for reading and commenting Fritzie!
