It’s time for Who Wears it Better in April 2023? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available. Let’s go!
The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth:
These covers are both very different from one another. The US cover reflects the importance of the cliff in the story. The Australian cover shows a woman whose identity is concealed and a man’s silhouette. I prefer the US cover for the inclusion of the cliff and the colours used.
Not That Kind of Ever After by Luci Adams:
Once again we have two very different covers. The UK cover has a frog and the caption of “One damsel, many many frogs” while the US cover has a woman on her laptop on top of books and many different references to fairy tales around the margins. My choice is the US cover for the beauty of the cover and the colours used.
Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez:
These two books are fairly similar in that they both include characters and paper airplanes. The US cover also includes a dog. It is for this reason, and the use of colours more appealing to me, that my choice is the US cover.
Beyond That, The Sea by Laura Spence-Ash:
I like each of these covers. The Celadon cover includes planes representing the historical setting of the book whereas the Thorndike cover could represent any point in time (although the skirt is a bit vintage). I also love the movement reflected in the Celadon cover – the wind that is rustling the girl’s skirt and blowing her hair. For this reason I am choosing the Celadon cover.
The Love Scribe by Amy Meyerson:
Once again we have two very different covers. Option 1 shows a series of pages with stars which I interpret as giving a sense of magic. Option 2 shows a series of upright books and a red bookmark tail arising over a book. I like each of these covers but am choosing Option 1’s cover for the magical feel which more aptly reflects this book.
So that’s Who Wears it Better in April 2023? I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please let me know in the comments. I appreciate you reading and supporting this blog and hope that you have a wonderful day.

Jodie, we are of like minds for each of these covers and pretty much for the same reasons. The last one, though…both covers are puzzling. Great post as I love these💜

I agree with you on all of these but the Yours Truly cover. For some reason, I really like the vivid yellow! Though I do think adding the dog to the yellow cover would be nice.

That’s perfectly fine that you disagree! Thanks for letting me know your thoughts!

I love Who Wears it Better! I like the US cover for The Soulmate, US for Not That Kind of Ever After, enjoy both for Yours Truly, Celadon for Beyond That, The Sea, and both for Love Scribe. Thank you for sharing, these are always so much fun. I hope you enjoy your weekend Jodie!

Rolé @ Hooked By That Book
It’s interesting, all these different covers. In general, I find that I prefer the cover that I saw first, wherever that may have been. Sometimes I like a different version better, but it’s as if that first look got stuck in my mind as “the” cover.

That’s interesting Rolé! Thanks for letting me know your thoughts!

Cute covers! I love the colorful ones. The Celadon and the US except for The Soulmate. I think Australia won that.

The Soulmate: I love both covers but I understand why the US cover resonates.
Beyond that, The Sea: I’m torn between the two book covers. The Celador cover, yes not so much the print. It’s vice versa on the other version. The Love Scribe: option 2 for me
