It’s time for Who Wears it Better in August 2023? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available. Let’s go!
Through The Snow Globe by Annie Rains
I love both of these covers! The colours used are beautiful and I appreciate that both show a couple inside a snow globe. I do prefer the Canelo Escapes font and the one line that describes what the book is about. For that reason it is my choice of covers for this book.
Famous In A Small Town by Viola Shipman:
There are some similarities but also differences in these two covers. Both show the back of a woman with a similar font for the title. I like the colours chosen for each of these covers. I’ve read this book and it features cherries throughout so I understand why Center Point Pub wanted to include them. I do feel, however, that it cheapens the look of the cover and is why my choice is the Graydon House cover.
Summer Stage by Meg Mitchell Moore:
I love both of these covers! They each have a woman on the beach looking out at the water. The fonts chosen for the title are similar although they use different colours. The splash of deep pink in the Center Point Pub cover adds some interest for me and that is why I am choosing this cover as my favourite.
The Paris Daughter by Kristin Harmel
I like both of these covers. Both covers look vintage and represent the fact the book is set during wartime. Having read the book, the Welbeck cover more closely depicts the dual settings of Paris and New York in the book. The Gallery book on the other hand just jumps out to me with its use of vivid colours and the small girl hugging her mother. It is for this reason that I choose the Gallery cover.
Between Us by Mhairi McFarlane
These two covers are both whimsical and both have a man and a woman on the cover. This seems to be where the similarities end. Even the characters illustrated have different hair colours (I’ve read the book and the Avon Books cover is a better representation). The Avon cover also show the addition of a movie camera which plays a part in the book. I do prefer the background colour of the HarperCollins cover, however, as well as the font chosen. It is for these reasons my choice is the HarperCollins cover.
So that’s Who Wears it Better in August 2023? I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please let me know in the comments. I appreciate you reading and supporting this blog and hope that you have a wonderful day!

I agree with you on ‘Famous in a Small Town’. There’s juxtaposition between the cherries and rest of cover

It is amazing how much a cover can really change perception (and in some cases, preference); it shows the power of design and visuals! I haven’t read The Paris Daughter but I definitely agree that the Gallery Books version really grabs my attention — incredible!

I think so too Molly! It’s interesting that certain covers are more attractive to some than others – especially looking at geography.

On the first book, I like the first cover best, because I like the snowglobe best there, but I do agree with you about the writing and the little one-liner telling what it is about on the other cover. And while I like the first cover on the last book a little better, I think the one with the colored hair and video camera is probably more representative of the story, so it’s best. Fun post!

1. Through the Snow Globe: I think both are lovely but my eye kept drifting to the Canelo Escape edition, maybe because it looks so Christmassy.
2. Famous in a Small Town: I was stumped for a bit but then decided I like the model’s silhouette better in the Graydon House edition and didn’t like those cherries in the other woman.
3. Summer Stage: Both are compelling covers but I prefer the dreamy quality of the second one by Center Point Pub.
4. The Paris Daughter: Hands down it’s the Gallery cover! It makes me want to get that book and start reading right away. I want to know this story.
5. Between Us: I much prefer the HarperCollins version for the same reasons as you, Jodie. But, it does bother me that the hair color is wrong. Still…
Love these posts💜

Such a great post! I would choose the exact same covers for all of them. The last is a bit tricky because I do love the general composition of the other one, but blue will always be my favorite background color.

Happy Weekend Jodie! I love Canelo’s cover for Snow Globe, Graydon for Famous in a Small Town, both covers for Summer Stage, Gallery for Paris Daughter, and both for Between Us!

Great choices, Jodie. I like your reasoning and based on your thoughts, I agree with all your choices. I have only read Famous in a Small Town and agree, the cherries make it look cheesy.
