It’s time for Who Wears it Better in December 2024? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available.
➡️ I’ve added voting buttons to each of the five challenges, so please cast your votes for all of them and I’ll do the same. I will share the final results in next month’s post. But first, let’s review the results of last month’s battles!
And now onto…
Our December Battles: (Polls close January 13)
Candlelight Christmas by Susan Wiggs:
The first battle looks at two covers representing two different editions of a book by the same publisher (MIRA). I like the overall aesthetic of the paperback version and therefore it is my choice of cover for this book.
A Christmas Duet by Debbie Macomber:
This battle represents two very different covers representing different publishers and regions. The Ballantine cover from the US is a photo with a woman walking into a Christmas scene while the Sphere cover from the UK is a whimsical Christmas scene including a couple with their arms around each other. My preference is the Sphere cover because I love whimsy and the detailed scene in this cover.
Is She Really Going Out With Him? by Sophie Cousens:
These two covers are more similar. While the graphic and fonts are slightly different it’s the colours used in each cover that provide the greatest difference. This one was a more difficult decision for me. I’m attracted to each of these covers and actually went back and forth between the covers several times. The tie breaker was that I love animals in covers so for that reason I choose the Hodder & Stoughton cover.
You Belong With Me by Mhairi McFarlane:
This is another example of two covers that are fairly similar. The colours and font chosen are different but both covers show a man and a woman on the cover. I do not like the colour chosen for the HarperCollins cover and therefore the Avon cover is my choice in this battle.
The Perfect Christmas by Debbie Macomber:
This book, originally published in 1998, has been re-released with several different covers over the years. For this battle, I’ve selected two to compare. Both feature a Christmas tablescape, but that’s where the similarities end. I love each cover for different reasons: the 2021 design’s Christmas green and tranquil vibe is incredibly inviting, while the 2009 cover’s bustling details add festive energy. Ultimately, I always lean towards peace, so my vote goes to the serene elegance of the 2021 cover.
So there you have it – Who Wears it Better in December 2024? I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please vote to let me know! Looking for more covers to compare? Thanks Jody!

These are always so much fun! It really is hard to choose between those two covers for Is She Really Going Out With Him? I think I like the GP Putnam’s sons one better just because the pictures more accurately reflect what the book is about, but they’re both very nice.

It is very difficult to choose sometimes and I find it makes a difference if I’ve read the book for sure Amanda.

I think this is the first month that I didn’t agree with several of your choices. When I’ve read the book, it makes it easier to choose for me. Another great group of covers, Jodie.

Thanks Carla. I find my opinion often changes if I’ve already read the book.
