It’s time for Who Wears it Better in November 2023? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available. Let’s go!
A Winter In New York by Josie Silver:
I love these covers! They both depict a couple in a New York winter but are very different from one another. The Delacorte cover has New York inside a snow globe while the Penguin cover shows a couple on a bridge with the cityscape in the background. The colours used in each of these covers is appealing to me. This is a difficult choice but if I had to choose one I’d choose the Penguin cover for the choice of font.
The Mystery Guest by Nita Prose:
There are similarities in these covers but also a few differences. The background colours of the books are different as is the font used. Both covers show a woman’s hand dangling a key. I like the phrase HarperCollins uses at the top of the cover but overall I am more attracted to the Ballantine cover and therefore it is my choice.
The Women by Kristin Hannah:
The next battle is for a highly anticipated book coming out in early 2024. Each of these covers is beautiful for the colours chosen and graphics used. Having said that, the St Martin’s Press version stands out to me as the winner for the use of gold against that red background.
Maybe Next Time by Cesca Major:
These two covers are vastly different. The HarperCollins cover is minimalist while the William Morrow cover is a watercolour of a London skyline. While I don’t find either of these covers very appealing I do prefer a non-minimalist cover. I therefore choose the William Morrow cover.
The Christmas Basket by Debbie Macomber:
Here is an example of the same publisher (MIRA) using different covers for different formats of the same book. These covers are very different from one another. The Kindle cover uses crisp graphics while the Hardcover version is a watercolour. I like them both but prefer the Kindle cover for the graphic used.
So that’s Who Wears it Better in November 2023? I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please let me know in the comments. I appreciate you reading and supporting this blog and hope that you have a wonderful day!
