It’s time for Who Wears it Better in September 2024? In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available.
➡️ I’ve added voting buttons to each of the five challenges, so please cast your votes for all of them. I’ll share the final results in next month’s post. But first, let’s review the results of last month’s battles!
Septembers Battles:
The Clover Girls by Viola Shipman:
Our first battle looks at two different covers used by two different publishers. Each cover shows four young women alongside water enjoying being together. I am attracted to both of these covers and the sense of peace I find in each of them. But I have to choose a favourite so my choice for this battle is the Center Point cover because I appreciate seeing the characters faces.
Slow Dance by Rainbow Rowell:
This battle features two different covers from two publishers. The Michael Joseph covers shows a disco ball while the William Morrow cover shows a wedding bouquet. I like both covers but the William Morrow cover has a background pea green colour that is not appealing to me. I therefore choose the Michael Joseph cover.
Miranda In Retrograde by Lauren Layne:
I love both of these covers. While they are similar the Center Point cover has the characters in silhouette while the Gallery cover does not. I love the vibrant colours and the sense of whimsy in both. Having read this book, my preference my a slight margin is the Gallery cover because it illustrates the book of each of the main characters.
Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty:
This battle is between three contenders who each represents a different region as well as publisher. The Penguin cover is from the UK, The Doubleday Canada cover is from Canada, and the Macmillan Australia cover from Australia. While there are similarities, particularly between the Penguin and Doubleday Canada covers, they are differences as well. While I like all three covers, my favourite is the Doubleday Canada cover because of the use of contrast between the blue water and the orange in the monarch butterfly.
What Does It Feel Like? by Sophie Kinsella:
Our final battle this month is for a soon to be published book which I recommend to everyone. While this book is a work of fiction it is also based on Sophie Kinsella’s own battle with brain cancer. I like that each of these publishers have shown the importance of a dress on the cover which reflects the storyline of the book. My choice of covers is The Dial Press cover because it shows the woman in the dress which conveys a strong message of hope.
So there you have it – Who Wears it Better in September 2024? I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please vote to let me know! Looking for more covers to compare?
