It’s time for Who Wears It Better – July 2022 edition! In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available. Let’s go!
The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain
I like each of these covers! They all reflect the fact that Albert is a postal worker and the graphics are all pleasing. I like the one on the left the best because it best reflects that Albert is on a journey.
The Boardwalk Bookshop by Susan Mallery
While both of these covers are very pretty, the Mills and Boon version is my choice because it shows the bookshop.
The Lies I Tell by Julie Clark
Both of these covers are interesting. I love the psychological thriller suggestion on the US version but the red cover of the UK version. I choose the US version because it more closely reflects the book.
Take Your Breath Away by Linwood Barclay
I appreciate both of these covers. The William Morrow cover again more closely represents a psychological thriller. I do like the addition of purple however on the HQ cover. I have to go with the William Morrow cover for the reason above.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus
Doubleday has used both of these covers on this book so I’m simply referring to them as Cover A and Cover B. While I like the graphics on each of the covers, I choose Cover B because it reflects the fact the protagonist is on 1960’s television.

I love Who Wears it Better! I like the Kensington Books cover for The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle, the stamps are so cute! The Mills and Boon cover reminds me of summer with the beautiful colors and the store by the beach! I also like the US cover for The Lies I Tell. As for Take Your Breath Away and Lessons in Chemistry, I like both! Thank you for sharing!

Sara
Oh I love this! It’s cool to see the comparison.
For me:
The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle – far right cover
The Boardwalk Bookshop – right cover
The Lies I tell – left cover
Take Your Breath Away – left cover
Lessons in Chemistry – left cover
All based purely on my aesthetic preferences as I haven’t read any of the books so far!
Loved this! And your rationales!

Thank you Wendy! I always enjoy preparing this post!
Carla
I love these cover posts. I never understand why different countries have different covers. I like the second cover for Take Your Breath Away because it shows his wife on the run. I read the Boardwalk Bookshop and agree with you. I like the second cover better because it shows the shop. Great post, Jodie.
