It’s time for Who Wears it Better? November 2022 edition! In this feature, I look at different book covers used for the same book. In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. You can click on the book covers to read my review of each book when available. Let’s go!
The Christmas Spirit by Debbie Macomber
I love both of these covers. The UK cover is a bit more whimsical and US cover gives a small town vibe. I love the choice of the US covers font type and colour so if I have to choose between these two I would choose the US cover.
Meredith, Alone by Claire Alexander
Both of these covers represent Meredith’s story of being unable to leave her house for years after experiencing trauma. Having read the book, I prefer the UK cover because it provides the reader with a quick statement as well as a visual of what the book is all about.
Before I Do by Sophie Cousens
I like these covers which each represent a bride trying to decide between two men. I think that the UK cover does a better job of this and prefer the colours and font used in the UK cover. I choose the UK cover.
Home Sweet Christmas by Susan Mallery
This one is a much closer decision for me as I love these covers equally. The US cover has the gingerbread which makes it look very festive. On the other hand, the UK cover is again more whimsical and shows a couple in various poses as well as a statement at the top of the cover. After a lot of thought, whimsy wins in this cover battle as I choose the UK cover.
The Secret to Southern Charm by Kristy Woodson Harvey
Here’s an example of three different covers for the same book. There are clearly differences between the Thorndike Press cover and Gallery Books covers. Why Gallery Books chose two variations of the same cover has piqued my interest. They are both listed as Gallery kindle edition covers on Goodreads. I like all three of these covers but my choice is Gallery Books #2 because of the colours used.

Carla
Great choices, Jodie. The only one where I would choose differently would be Home Sweet Christmas. For some reason the whimsical cover doesn’t work for me. Interesting about the subtle changes in the Gallery covers for The Secret to Southern Charm. I like that one has an ereader and the other a physical book. I’m guessing they interchange depending on what you buy.

This post is always fun! I agree with you on all these. Especially, Merideth, Alone. And it’s so interesting that for The Secret of Southern Charm, the have 2 covers the same except for the color of the swimsuit

I love both covers for The Christmas Spirit, US cover for Meredith, Alone (however it’s great to hear that the UK cover represents what the book’s about), UK cover for Before I Do, US for Home Sweet Christmas, and love all covers for The Secret to Southern Charm.
