Hi everyone! Who judges a book by its cover? Today on my blog I’m starting a new feature which looks at different book covers used for books I’ve read. I’m calling this feature Who Wears It Better? In some cases, the cover is chosen by geography (e.g. North America or UK). Other times, it’s based on the edition of the book (hardcover, paperback, kindle etc). Where it becomes confusing is when the book is given a completely different title! Just for fun, and because I love talking books, let’s see what different books covers I’ve noticed recently. I hope you enjoy this new feature.
You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry (alternate title The People You Meet on Vacation).
My preference of covers is the one on the left. I prefer the colours in this cover and like the addition of the float in the pool.

One Day in December by Josie Silver
As you can see, this book has three alternatives. I read the book on the upper left, but prefer the upper right version because of the sense of romance and winter vibe it brings.

The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan
I read the version on the left and prefer this one because of the beautiful colours used and the sense of love I get with the sisters walking together.

It’s Better This Way by Debbie Macomber
Again I prefer the cover on the left. It looks more elegant and the nature really elevates the cover.

Eight Perfect Hours by Lia Louis
I read the version on the bottom and I love it and the one on the upper left equally. The addition of the flowers on the upper left is a nod to the book but I love the couple on the cover and fuschia font on the bottom one.

So that’s Who Wears it Better October 2021 edition! I’d love to know which covers you prefer, so please let me know in the comments. Also, please let me know what you think of this new feature. I hope that you have a wonderful day.
Amanda Kay
This is such a fun idea! I love looking at the different covers for the same book. I wonder how often we prefer the edition we saw first? Because I mostly liked the covers that I was familiar with already lol
thathappyreader
That’s a good point Amanda! Thanks for reading!
Jamieadstories
I would choose the snowy one every time. I love snow. Covers do vary a lot.
thathappyreader
They really do! Snowy covers are beautiful. Thanks Jamie!
Matt Two Tickets To
Really interesting post! I’d never really thought about how much of an impact a front cover would have on my initial impression of a book, but seeing the different options here have really brought it to life. I agree with your choices on the standout designs! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for reading Matt!

Not sure I’ve taken note of this in the past. For sure, I like the pink and blue of ‘You and Me on Vacation’.

Lindsey
Ah this is such a fun idea! I never really considered how many books have different covers – great idea for a post and I look forward to more of them!

Thank you Lindsey!
Sue Berk Koch
Your post reinforces the point that cover art is key to sales! My favorite cover is the realistic table setting. Thanks for the fun post.

Thanks for reading Sue!
Wendy Williams
I love this post! So much fun and I agree with all your choices. Don’t you wonder what it’s like to be in the marketing meeting where they are discussing these different covers?
thathappyreader
I’d love to be in that meeting Wendy! I wonder how much of a say the authors have?

Bex Books and Stuff
What a great idea for a post, I have to say I am hugely influenced by a front cover. I will scroll past covers that don’t appeal to me and so could be missing out on some gems!
thathappyreader
Thanks for reading Bex! Covers definitely attract me to books as well.
Jaya Avendel
This is such a new and creative idea! I love the cover comparisons and find myself liking the orange People We Meet on Vacation cover, the first One Day in December cover, the first Christmas Sisters cover, the second It’s Better This Way cover, and the third Eight Perfect Hours cover. 🙂
thathappyreader
Thanks for reading and letting me know your preferences Jaya!
Days Besas
What a great idea for a post! If I am shopping in an actual bookstore, I would go through every book on the shelf regardless of the cover. However, if it’s online, I would just click on the books with an attractive cover because of the time that it takes for the computer to load.
thathappyreader
That’s interesting! Thank you for reading!
Michelle Gast
I like the book covers. They look like good books!

I obviously have similar taste to you when it comes to book covers. This is such a great blog post idea.
thathappyreader
Thank you Kelly Diane! 😊
Raji
This is such a fun idea for a post! I love looking at different covers for books. It’s one of the reasons I rarely buy books as soon as they’re released, just in case a later edition has a cover I like better.
thathappyreader
That makes sense to me! Thanks Raji!
Vourneen
I love this idea!! Funnily enough as I was scrolling down, I was choosing my favourites before reading yours and we have exactly the same taste! I really look forward to more of these posts 🙂
thathappyreader
Thanks Vourneen! I’m glad that you enjoyed it. 😊
ItaPixie
I prefer the one on the bottom for One Day In December and for Thr Christmas Sisters it depends because if it’s Women’s Fiction I like more the cover on the left but if it’s a Chick Lit I like that on the right.
Lovely idea!!

Thanks for reading ItaPixie!

Allison
This is such a great idea for a post! I am absolutely someone who will buy multiple copies of the same book just to have multiple cover designs. I hope you do more of these posts in the future- I’ve got some new book recommendations and it was fun trying to guess which cover you would pick!
thathappyreader
I’m glad you enjoyed this Allison! Yes this will be a monthly feature. Thanks for reading.😊
Alicia Thompson
hello! this is an incredible idea of a post. I sadly have to admit that I am lacking big time on the reading front but thank you for all these recommendations. I love the sound of One day in December because I’m a sucker for a romance story. Thanks for sharing! Alicia
